THE
BURNT MONKEY IS NEITHER BURNT NOR A MONKEY
The Burnt monkey is not a monkey at
all, resembling the Orangutans
of southeastern Asia more closely than anyone else. He differs from
them, however, in several important ways, one of them being the relative
uniformity of his internal physiology-- where they have various differentiated
internal organs and tissues, the Burnt Monkey has fiber, or, as some call
it, "stuffing." He does't like fire retardents, but he avoids open
flame and has never been burned. The Burnt Monkey took on his handle as
a matter of (albeit, somewhat irreverent) solidarity after observing the
hardships suffered by Orangs during
the fires that have plagued the forests where they live in Sumatra and
Borneo. While the Burnt
Monkey lives a comfortable life among both other beings like himself and
sympathetic humans in a small town on the shores of Penobscot Bay Maine,
he is understandably very concerned about the condition of Orangs around
the world. He encourages all who share his concerns to visit the
website of the Orangutan
Foundation International, and to
give them lots of money and support!
